COLON CANCER ISN'T JUST AN OLDER PERSON'S DISEASE

Our son Mike was diagnosed with colon cancer at 32.
We’re working to make sure more young adults between the ages of 21 and 45 years of age, get a screening colonoscopy before it’s too late.

OUR STORY

Our son Michael Frierson, A.K.A. The Sloth, was diagnosed with stage 3 Colorectal Cancer in 2016. He was 32 years old. He courageously fought the disease until his passing on November 4, 2021. He was 38 years old when he died. After initially overcoming cancer and achieving “no evidence of disease” status, he shared his story publicly to raise awareness about colorectal cancer risks in young people.

Despite a remarkable recovery and several following joyful years, the cancer returned in 2019. Michael Geoffrey endured further surgeries and treatments with incredible strength. During his final years, Michael’s resilience, humor, and spirit left an indelible mark on everyone he knew, especially his parents, who were his primary caregivers. To honor Michael’s memory, his family is committed to spreading awareness to prevent more young lives from being lost to Colorectal Cancer.

OUR VISION & GOALS

Our vision is to eradicate colorectal cancer for people between the ages of 21-45. Our goal of providing free colonoscopies for individuals between ages 21-45.  Our secondary goal is to create a statistically significant clinical trial that identifies polyp production in this age group.

Other goals of MCYC are to educate young people on Early Onset Colorectal Cancer (EOCRC), and encourage them to get preventative screening colonoscopies. We believe this three-tiered strategy will enable the existing healthcare system to start implementing preventative practices as it pertains to colorectal cancer for 21-45 year-olds.
